For most students in Utah, the excitement (or dread) of going back to school has come and gone and they have settled into the routine of classes, homework and tests.

But today’s students face an additional challenge… one that their Oregon Trail playing parents didn’t have to consider at all – and that’s cybersecurity.

Our guest on this week’s episode of CYBER24 is the author of a recently-published article outlining what teenagers need to know about cybersecurity. Dr. Sanjay Goel is an professor in the School of Business at the University at Albany. He is also the Director of Research at the New York State Center for Information Forensics and Assurance at the University. Dr. Goel received is Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 1999 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Our conversation outlines the issues teens and their parents need to discuss including passwords, social media and more. We walk through Dr. Goel’s expert tips on keeping your teenagers safe on mobile devices, laptops, social media platforms and on video games.
